Tastiest Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe
So Halloween has been and gone, which means the next big holiday is… Bonfire Night! What’s better than wrapping up in a cosy hat, scarf and glove combo with your trusty pair of wellies to watch the colourful razzmatazz of hundreds of fireworks? Well, a nice warm thermos of a seasonal pumpkin spice latte wouldn’t go amiss to keep your hands toasty - but why spend £3 for a takeaway cup of the stuff when you can just make your own? Okay, so we’re no Nigella but we had to give it a go and we’ve found a brilliant recipe that will work wonders on your tastebuds while you’re ooh-ing and aah-ing at November 5th fireworks.
If you don’t already have all the ingredients, they might come to more than £3 - but it’s an investment that will save you money in the long-run if you’re a pumpkin spice fanatic like us!
What Ingredients Are in a Pumpkin Spice Latte?
Surprisingly, it’s not all that fancy! It’s dairy-free and full of delicious sweetness, some of which you may already have in your cupboard so make sure to have a root around before your supermarket trip.
3 tbsp pumpkin puree: You can buy a 425g tin for £1.60 which should do 10 servings
2tbsp maple syrup: You can buy a 180ml bottle for £2.68 which should do 12 servings
½ tsp pumpkin pie spice: You can buy a 125g bag for £1.57 which should do over 60 servings
500ml almond milk: You can buy a 1l carton for £1 which should do 2 servings
2tbsp vanilla extract: You can buy a 38ml bottle for £1 which should do 1 serving
And for the cream topping...
236ml coconut cream: You can buy 250ml for £1.45 which should do 1 serving
1tbsp maple syrup
1tsp vanilla extract
How to Make Pumpkin Spice Latte
Combine your pumpkin puree, maple syrup, and pumpkin pie spice together in a warm pan and mix together until it’s been worked into a smooth paste-like consistency.
Pour in the almond milk and splash in the vanilla extract together before whisking it all up - you want all the flavour to get into the milk, so go crazy with your whisk techniques here.
Leave it to settle for a while until the vibrant colours start to come through, and then give it another whisk.
Leave it to simmer again for a couple of minutes, and use a handheld blender to get it nice and frothy. Take off the heat and put to one side.
Take a chilled bowl and pop in your coconut cream, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. To get this fluffy you’ll need a hand mixer to get in there and lighten up the mixture - this is going to be the topping for your latte.
Pour yourself a fresh-from-the-pot Americano - but only fill up the mug (or thermos) around ⅓ of the way. Add in your pumpkin spice mix and voila! A pumpkin spice latte hot off the press!
