Newcastle Racecourse Ladies Day Essentials

You may have already heard the news, but we’re ready to shout it from the rooftops: we’re sponsoring Ladies Day at Newcastle Racecourse! We’re venturing out from our online casino to watch some racing, so if you’re getting dolled up this Saturday ready for one of the biggest social events of the year, be sure to stop by and see us. We’re coming prepared with a gorgeous flower wall just waiting to feature in all of your glamorous photos, so make sure to stop by and snap a pic or two using the hashtag #howaypetal so we can see the floral piece in action!

Now, Ladies Day is a grand affair complete with incredible outfits, action-packed horse racing, and an all-day party that you’ll be talking about for weeks, so it’s important to dress to impress. While lots of you will have been preparing for this day for weeks, the last-minute ticket buyers among you may be rushing around trying to find an outfit to suit the event - so we’ve compiled a list of pointers to get you started so you know what you’re looking for from your all-important outfit.

What to Wear for Ladies Day

An easy way to find out the dress code for Ladies Day is to directly refer to Newcastle Racecourse’s website; to summarise, they suggest smart clothing - although this isn’t necessarily enforced, you may be outnumbered by folks dressed to the 9s if you decide to go in casualwear. Don’t forget that there are competitions on Saturday for the best dressed among you, so get your glad rags on and make an impression! For the dress-wearers, you’ll be looking to don some glamorous gowns that ooze confidence with many choosing to add on some intricate fascinators to seal the look. Many online stores, from Pretty Little Thing to ASOS offer a wide range of sizing options and have dedicated subsections for the Ladies Day-goers, so shop to your heart’s content - and take advantage of their next day delivery option so you have your dress in time!

If you’re looking to get dapper, it doesn’t get much better than a tailored suit - throw in a waistcoat if you’re feeling fancy, but don’t feel obliged, especially considering the temperatures are still due to be high at the weekend despite the rain that’s coming. For you dashing Pink Players looking to make quite the entrance at the Racecourse, River Island has some fantastic options with a variety of colours, patterns, and sizes - so you’re guaranteed to look your best with their expertly curated Races section. Alternatively, if you’d like to splash out on something that you can pull out of your closet time and time again, invest in a gorgeous suit from retailers like Master Debonair and you’ll be turning heads left, right, and centre!

What Happens at Ladies Day?

It’s one of the most glamorous days out in Newcastle and offers a huge range of things to do to keep the family entertained for the day. Gates open at 11 am, so give yourself a lie-in before getting dolled up and ready to hit the town. Throughout the day there will be plenty of flat races to keep you entertained as you socialise, get stuck into some brilliant competitions, and gorge on some drool-worthy plates of food. We’re particularly excited about the Silk Series race being held on Saturday, a race exclusive to female jockeys in support of the amazing Cancer Research UK - it’ll be well worth the watch!

As we mentioned briefly before, dressing up to look your best is recommended as there are competitions held throughout the day celebrating the glitz and glamour of Race-goers, primarily the Best Dressed Lady which takes place in the afternoon and is bound to be the centre of everybody’s attention. Prizes are valued at thousands of pounds and will be awarded to both runners-up and the winner, with the top prize being some return flights to a European destination of the winner’s choice!

Make sure your shoes are comfy enough for dancing because you’ll be doing plenty! There will be live DJ sets all day to keep the party going featuring tracks by Ministry of Sound who are bound to get people lively - no matter the weather.

What Should You Take to Ladies Day?

The most important thing is to keep your eyes on the weather forecast for Saturday. At the time of writing, there’s due to be a lot of rain over the course of the day so making sure you’re covered is vital! Bringing along a large umbrella will make you everybody’s best friend, and you’re bound to have countless people running over to duck under it, but most importantly you’ll keep yourself from getting grouchy as the day goes on.

Even though the rain is due to take the racecourse by storm, the sun is still out and the temperatures are still high, so don’t forget the suncream! Lather on some SPF 50 (or over) underneath any makeup and on any exposed skin to give yourself the best possible protection from the dangerous UV rays. Bring some with you for any top-ups, and so friends and family can throw some on, too!

Lads, here are a few things that you should make sure you don't leave the house without:

A portable charger, for when your phone inevitably dies after hours of snapping selfies

Pocket-sized binoculars to watch the full race

Travel-sized deodorant

A pre-booked taxi for leaving Newcastle Racecourse, regardless of whether you want to head into town afterwards or have an early night

Lasses, aside from the above, you'll be kicking yourself if you don't pack the following:

A compact mirror for convenient touch-ups on the go

Hand sanitizer

Mini fan - because the humidity is nobody's friend!

Flat shoes - for later on in the day when the DJ is in full swing (you can thank us later)
